The Meteorological Department's regional headquarters in Alipore issued a statement on Wednesday, highlighting the ongoing heavy rainfall across West Bengal, notably in metropolitan Kolkata and several other districts. According to the department's data, Kolkata experienced 11.2 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, resulting in a noteworthy decline in temperatures. The minimum temperature plummeted by five degrees below the normal mark, settling at 18.9 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature dropped four degrees below the usual, reaching 30.4 degrees Celsius. This sudden change in weather has caused a noticeable chill in the air, affecting residents across the region.
Apart from Kolkata, districts such as Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Purulia, and Bankura are also witnessing continuous rainfall. The forecast suggests that this pattern is expected to persist for the next two days until Friday, potentially leading to further temperature declines in the state. However, the department assures that this dip in temperature is temporary, with expectations of a gradual rise in temperatures anticipated as early as next week. Similar weather conditions prevail in North Bengal districts including Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong.
